The Season After Pentecost
The long season that begins on the Day of Pentecost and lasts until the Sunday before Advent begins is also called ordinary time. This season is ordinary as these weeks of the year are not part of a specific liturgical season such as Lent or Easter. The word “ordinary” refers not to the lack of special celebrations during the season, but rather the counting of the Sundays using ordinal (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) numbers.. The liturgical color for the Season after Pentecost is green - and in the northern hemisphere, we connect this season with the growth an fruitfulness of the Christian life as we see the fruitfulness of the green creation around us.
Pentecost themes:
+ We focus on our relationship with God and try to be examples of the Holy Spirit in action.
+ We celebrate our relationship with Jesus and with each other, especially through praying
together and Holy Communion.
+ We show the Holy Spirit working in our lives by helping others.
